All Natural DIY | Shower Essentials

I started making all of my own shampoo, conditioner, dry shampoo, facial serum & hair detangler last year with super basic household products!

I’ve also gotten to a place with my hair where I only have to wash it 2-3 times a month. It just doesn’t get oily anymore, likely because I’m not washing it with damaging ingredients like sulfates, parabens or other carcinogens. If you have super thick hair like me, washing it is quite a production & it takes like 9 hours to fully dry, so washing it as infrequently as possible is a plus!

*A great way to check on what ingredients are in your products & what kind of harm they can cause is the Think Dirty app. This is something I use constantly — it’s so helpful & informative!

Ultimately what I’ve found is that the easiest way to avoid the bad stuff & know exactly what’s in a product is to just make your own :)

What You’ll Need

You’ll need some amber glass bottles + funnels. I recommend purchasing these in person at a grocery or craft store, but if you can’t find them anywhere, there are plenty of mindful shops online (particularly Etsy) that ship with recycled materials! But if you’re in a bind, I linked ones on Amazon. These bottles will last for years & be a much more sustainable option than frequently purchasing shampoo + conditioner at the store in plastic bottles!

For essential oils, I use Vitruvi.

My custom facial serum comes from them as well — you can take the quiz that chooses your oils based on your skin type here!

I also have a discount code for $10 off your order at Vitruvi if you decide to get anything! (You just add your email, then get a $10 credit. Super easy!)
